New bond and rules for adjusters, producers

Beginning April 9, 2026, Iowa adjusters must carry a $50,000 surety bond to get or keep a license. The bond must be from an insurer authorized to issue surety in Iowa, name the state, and let the commissioner recover money for people harmed by your errors, fraud, or unfair acts. The bond can’t end until 30 days after the division gets written notice; you must tell the division right away if it ends without proper notice or becomes impaired. If the bond ends or is impaired, your license is inactive until you show new proof. The division may ask for proof at any time and can issue emergency rules to enforce these requirements. Licensed producers who are appointed and given claim authority must follow adjuster rules, too.

Arrest power in insurance fraud probes

Investigators under the insurance commissioner can make arrests during a case when they find a crime under the listed insurance and related laws. This applies while they are conducting an investigation or working an assigned case. These powers are in effect beginning April 9, 2026.
