Victims can get restitution on agreed dismissals

Beginning July 1, 2026, in a public offense or ordinance case that is unofficially dismissed, the court can order restitution. This happens only if the defendant and the prosecuting attorney both agree and the court includes the order. The defendant can be required to pay money to the victim and to cover court costs as category B restitution. The law does not set amounts or payment schedules.
