Bill Overview

Analyzed Economic Effects

2 provisions identified: 1 benefits, 0 costs, 1 mixed.

Child care jobs protected for controlled conditions

Beginning 07/01/2025, child care employers in Iowa cannot deny you a job just for a controlled medical condition if it does not affect your work. This is a clear hiring protection for applicants and employees in licensed or registered child care settings.

Health exams required for child care staff

Beginning 07/01/2025, all staff in licensed or registered child care in Iowa must show a report from a job physical. The first physical must be within six months before or six months after your start date. The exam must include communicable disease tests by a licensed doctor or licensed physician assistant. After your first exam, you must get a physical at least every three years. The law does not say who pays, so plan for time and possible small costs.
