Year-round school option and public hearing

Beginning July 1, 2025, school districts and accredited nonpublic schools can apply to the Iowa Department of Education to run a year-round calendar at a specific attendance center or school for students in prekindergarten through grade 12. The Department reviews and approves these applications. A school district board must hold a public hearing on the proposal before it applies, so families can attend and speak. Adoption is optional and only happens at schools that apply and receive approval.
