Bill Overview

Analyzed Economic Effects

3 provisions identified: 2 benefits, 0 costs, 1 mixed.

Work-study with employer-paid tuition

Each Regents university starts at least one work-study program. You work part time while earning your degree. During semesters you are employed by a participating employer, that employer pays your tuition and mandatory fees. This requirement starts July 1, 2025.

Earlier, clearer tuition decisions at Regents schools

The Board of Regents must give student government leaders written notice at least 30 days before any vote to raise tuition or fees, with the amount and the draft memo. Final decisions on tuition and mandatory fees happen at a regular meeting by April 30 for the next fiscal year. That meeting must be in Ames, Cedar Falls, or Iowa City, and not during holidays or class breaks. The final docket memo must show the estimated total cost to attend each school. These rules start July 1, 2025.

Three-year bachelor's degree options

Each Regents university begins work to offer at least one bachelor's degree you can finish in three years. The law does not set curricula or guarantee lower tuition. This requirement starts July 1, 2025.
