Limits on neighbors suing racetracks

Beginning July 1, 2025, racetracks in Iowa are immune from nuisance, taking, or similar lawsuits by nearby property owners. This applies only when the track existed in Iowa before the owner bought the property or built there. “Racing facility” includes the track, spectator areas, garages, and any grounds or buildings used to run the races. The law protects racetrack operators but limits legal options for nearby owners.
