Beginning 07/01/2025, if you hold a class I or class III dock permit, you may add a roof over a hoist or slip. The roof must use rust-resistant materials, be no wider than 30 feet, and sit no more than 20 feet above the normal water level. It must be over the slip or hoist and cannot be used for sleeping or living. The installer must carry dock liability insurance of at least $1,000,000 per occurrence, and the dock owner is responsible for damages caused by the roof. Associations—nonprofits under chapter 504 by public lakes—can set stricter roof rules for members and their unofficial guests.
