Adults on sex offender registries barred from firefighting

Beginning July 1, 2025, anyone who must be on a sex offender registry because of an adult crime cannot be a firefighter. They cannot be certified, and they also cannot serve as a noncertified or volunteer firefighter. The Iowa Department of Public Safety must update its training and certification rules by January 1, 2026 to reflect this ban.
