2 provisions identified: 0 benefits, 1 costs, 1 mixed.

Stricter conflict rules for county attorneys

Beginning 05/19/2025, county attorneys face tighter conflict-of-interest limits. They cannot take fees or rewards from a person for work in a prosecution or official business. They and their law firm cannot represent private parties in county cases based on the same facts as a prosecution they handled. They also cannot get help from a lawyer who has an interest in a civil case seeking recovery tied to that prosecution.

County boards can hire outside lawyers

Beginning 05/19/2025, a county board of supervisors can hire outside lawyers to represent the board or any county official. A majority of the board must approve the hire. This adds options for legal representation and may raise county legal costs.
