New insurer response and provider payment rules
Beginning July 1, 2025, Iowa health insurers must answer provider credentialing requests within 56 calendar days of the request. This applies to doctors, advanced registered nurse practitioners, and physician assistants. Insurers must give providers written reasons for denials. The Iowa Insurance Commissioner must set rules for paying clean claims for covered care given during credentialing, once providers are approved. The credentialing period runs from the insurer's receipt of the application to its approval.
