Beginning January 1, 2026, home sellers must say on the standard disclosure form if the property has a lead service line. The law defines a lead service line. A galvanized line counts as lead if it is, or ever was, downstream of a lead or unknown line. Downstream means the section between the lead line and the water meter. A service line is the pipe from the water main to the building, including the pipe to the water meter. Interior plumbing is not part of the service line. The Real Estate Commission sets the form and details. It can also require other unofficial items, like zoning or system condition.
