New fleet plates for Iowa businesses
The law takes effect July 1, 2026. By December 1, 2028, Iowa’s transportation department must launch a permanent fleet registration and renewal program and adopt rules. Qualifying fleets must have at least two Iowa-registered motor vehicles under common ownership or control, used for business. Vehicles covered by Iowa Code chapter 326 do not qualify. Special plates identify fleet vehicles and do not need annual validation stickers. The department may reassign these plates for a registration year.
