Police and fire pension deductions set and capped

For municipal police and fire members, the member rate is 9.675% starting July 1, 2025. The system can raise your rate to cover costs. Employee contributions are capped at 11.475% starting July 1, 2025.

Updated cancer definition for duty benefits

The law updates how "cancer" is defined for state peace officer and city police and fire pension systems. Cancer now means diseases with abnormal cell growth that can spread. This definition guides duty-related cancer benefits and presumptions. The change takes effect June 6, 2025.

Higher baseline for state peace officer pensions

For state peace officer pensions, the baseline rate is 11.35% for July 1, 2020 through June 30, 2025. Starting July 1, 2025, the baseline is 11.475% each year. The retirement board can add another percentage on top.

Slightly higher retirement deductions for protection staff

If you are in a protection occupation under IPERS or you are a county sheriff or deputy, your share rises by 0.125 percentage points. This applies starting July 1, 2025 and each year after. Your employer’s share falls by the same amount.
