New gun rules for ATVs and snowmobiles

Beginning July 1, 2025, new rules apply to guns on ATVs and snowmobiles. You cannot operate or ride with a gun unless it is unloaded and in a case. A nonambulatory person may carry an uncased, unloaded gun while on the vehicle. You may carry a loaded gun without a permit on land you own, rent, or possess, if your conduct is lawful. You may carry a loaded pistol or revolver, whether concealed or not, on land you do not own if your conduct is lawful. You may not fire a gun while on the vehicle. A nonambulatory person may fire while lawfully hunting only when the vehicle is not moving. The law also deletes paragraph q in section 805.8B(3) and repeals section 483A.36 on July 1, 2025.
