New rules for counting child exploitation crimes

The law changes how charges are counted for visual depictions of minors. Each different minor shown in one depiction counts as its own offense. Multiple depictions of the same minor are charged as one offense, not one per image. This changes how many counts prosecutors can file and how sentences may stack. Beginning July 1, 2025, these rules apply in Iowa.
