Bill Overview

Analyzed Economic Effects

2 provisions identified: 1 benefits, 0 costs, 1 mixed.

Possible lower school taxes after dissolutions

Beginning July 1, 2025, territory from a dissolved school district with certified enrollment under 600 is eligible for a lower foundation property tax levy if the Director of Education approves. If approved, the Director must notify the Department of Management. This can reduce property tax bills for homeowners in that territory.

New timing for school district changes

The law resets when school district mergers, enlargements, and boundary moves take effect. If voters approved before January 1, 2025, changes start on July 1 following the election or approval. If approved on or after January 1, 2025, changes start on July 1 of the year after the election or approval year. These timing rules apply retroactively to actions on or after January 1, 2025.
