Students get excused absences for school activities
Beginning July 1, 2026, Iowa public school districts, charter schools, and accredited nonpublic schools must adopt attendance policies. These policies must grant exempt absences for participation in school-sponsored activities, programs, competitions, or projects. They must also let students make up classwork missed because of that participation.
