Parents: new child abuse interview rules

Beginning July 1, 2026, a judge can allow entry into the home, a child interview, or observation. This applies when an abuse report is sent to police, a parent or guardian refuses consent, and probable cause is shown. A talk with a trained forensic interviewer at a child advocacy or protection center counts as an official interview. Child protection workers and forensic interviewers may record visible signs of abuse. These steps help protect the child and improve evidence, but also allow court-approved intrusion when parents say no.
