Licenses required to run hospitals and facilities

Hospitals, rural emergency hospitals, and health care facilities must have a state license to open or operate. The department enforces these rules. This applies statewide beginning 07/01/2026.

No hospital or facility licenses for China, Russia, North Korea

Beginning 07/01/2026, the department does not issue or renew licenses for hospitals, rural emergency hospitals, or health care facilities to entities tied to China, Russia, or North Korea. The ban covers government instrumentalities, citizens of those countries, and businesses mostly owned by them. It applies to new licenses and renewals.

Supported living: no license, funding approval

Supported community living services no longer need a license under chapter 135C. To get public funding, they must be approved under section 225C.21. This change starts 07/01/2026.
