Businesses must e-file Iowa sales tax

Beginning May 6, 2025, Iowa sales and use tax returns must be filed electronically every month. File each month’s return by the last day of the next month. Your return must list sales, exemptions, taxable amounts, and the tax due, and be signed and certified. A non-electronic return is not valid unless the department grants an exception. If you cannot e-file, you may ask the Department of Revenue director to allow another method. The department sets the electronic format and rules.
