Idaho car‑buyer fund for residents only

Beginning July 1, 2026, only Idaho residents—or people who lived in Idaho when they bought or leased the car—can get money from the Idaho Consumer Asset Recovery Fund. You must have a final Idaho court judgment for losses from dealer fraud or from violations of Idaho motor vehicle or consumer laws. The purchase or lease must have happened on or after July 1, 2014. File your verified claim no sooner than 45 days and no later than one year after the judgment is final. Do not file while an appeal is pending.

Dealers and lenders barred from recovery fund

Beginning July 1, 2026, motor vehicle dealers, banks, and floorplan lenders cannot file claims with the Idaho Consumer Asset Recovery Fund. The fund is reserved for eligible car buyers with qualifying final Idaho judgments.
