Beginning July 1, 2026, a unit may, by contract, pay firefighters’ dues to a regularly organized volunteer firefighters’ association. This happens only if the contract includes this benefit. It applies to firefighters in volunteer fire departments.
Beginning July 1, 2026, a unit served by a volunteer fire department pays each active, participating member two yearly allowances, paid directly to the member. The clothing allowance is at least $250 per year. The automobile allowance is at least $250 per year for use of a member’s personal vehicle while on duty. A contract can set different amounts or terms.
