New education rules for Indiana CPAs

Starting July 1, 2026, first-time CPA exam candidates must have 120 semester hours with an accounting concentration or a bachelor’s in accounting. To get an initial CPA certificate, they must have at least 150 hours and a bachelor’s or higher from a school the board accepts, with an accounting concentration or board‑approved equivalent. Starting January 1, 2027, there are three ways to meet the initial licensure education: a bachelor’s with accounting; a bachelor’s with accounting totaling 150 hours; or a post‑bachelor’s degree with accounting. Each degree must be from a college the board accepts.
