Medicare supplement protections with start-date rules

Beginning January 1, 2026, these Indiana protections apply to Medicare supplement policies and certificates delivered, issued, or renewed on or after that date. Insurers cannot deny coverage, attach conditions to coverage, or discriminate in pricing based on health, medical conditions, claims history, or health care received. You qualify during the six-month window starting the first day of the first month you are at least 65 and timely enrolled in Medicare Part B without penalty. You also qualify at 65 or older if you already have Medicare supplement coverage and apply to a different insurer within 60 days of your birthday to keep the same lettered plan, including a variation. For these birthday switches, the new coverage must start on the first day of the month that is at least 30 days after you sign the application.
