Beginning July 1, 2026, the agency does not issue or renew your license if the tax department lists you on a tax warrant. The same block applies if the alcohol/tobacco commission or BMV reports you owe a state balance. You must give the agency a satisfaction statement before it renews or issues the license. The agency also lets those agencies see licensee and applicant names for enforcement.
Starting July 1, 2026, the agency must send a renewal notice at least 90 days before your license expires. If that notice is late, you avoid penalties if you renew within 45 days after you get it. Once you submit all required items, the agency must process renewals within 10 days, or within 24 hours if you appear in person with complete documents. The agency may delay renewal up to 120 days for an investigation; your license stays valid unless denied or suspended, and it auto-renews if the board takes no action by day 120. The agency can stagger renewal cycles with a board’s approval, and the law updates which statute sets expiration and renewal dates.
Beginning July 1, 2026, the state creates the Indiana Professional Licensing Agency to handle admin work for many boards, such as accountancy, architects, engineers, real estate, cosmetology, plumbing, and more. The governor appoints an executive director, who can name up to three deputies, manages hiring and procurement, and can sign orders or subpoenas for boards when asked. The agency prepares one combined budget request for covered boards. The prior statute for agency functions (IC 25-1-6) is repealed and replaced by this new structure.
Starting July 1, 2026, if a listed board denies your license or certificate renewal, you can file an administrative appeal under IC 4-21.5-3. This gives you a formal way to challenge the denial.
Starting July 1, 2026, the agency runs a public online registry of licensed professionals. Board meeting agendas are posted at least 72 hours before meetings. Adopted minutes are posted within 14 days. Board vacancies are posted within 14 days after they occur.
Beginning July 1, 2026, after you fix a cited violation, the agency has up to 90 days to tell you if you are in substantial compliance. The 90 days run from the correction due date in your plan or the date you tell the agency you fixed it, whichever is earlier. This can make resolution take longer.
Beginning July 1, 2026, your home phone, email, and mailing address are confidential and not released to the public. You must provide your Social Security number to the agency. The agency only shares SSNs as state or federal law allows, including with testing services and other state boards to coordinate licensing.
Beginning July 1, 2026, the agency sends you a notice every 14 days about missing items after you start an application. Exam application forms are available at least 30 days before the application deadline. New application forms must be posted online for 60 days before the agency adopts them. If you do not finish an application within one year of filing, it is abandoned unless the board grants 30‑day extensions for good cause. A later filing after abandonment is treated as a new application.
