Veterinary workers face paid background check requirements

Beginning July 1, 2025, Indiana applicants for an initial veterinarian or veterinary technician credential must pay for state and national criminal history checks. National checks use FBI records based on fingerprints or another method of positive identification. At renewal, a licensing board, commission, or committee may require a national check through a random audit, at the applicant’s expense. Indiana State Police may release results to the Board of Veterinary Medicine’s chief administrative officer. Results may also go to a Board of Animal Health employee authorized to carry out the veterinary board’s duties.
