Regular background checks for child-welfare workers

Beginning July 1, 2026, employees at child-caring institutions, group homes, child-placing agencies, home-based family preservation providers, and preventative providers must get the federally required child-welfare background check. They must complete it by four years after hire and again every four years. If they already did that federal check for the same employer, they do not need a separate one for added duties.
