New licenses for racetrack horse dentists

Beginning July 1, 2025, the Indiana Horse Racing Commission can license nonveterinarians to provide horse teeth-floating services. Teeth floating means filing or rasping sharp tooth edges with a manual hand tool. Applicants need an out-of-state teeth-floating license, current certification from the International Association of Equine Dentistry or Equine Dental Providers of America, or at least five recommendation letters from trainers who hired them for teeth floating. Licensees cannot give sedatives, use power tools, float front teeth, or remove teeth except loose baby teeth. They do not need an Indiana veterinary license or special permit when providing only license-authorized services at licensed Indiana horse-racing tracks.
