Beginning January 1, 2026, counties and clerks must preserve sealed ballots, related election materials, data copied from voting machines, and electronic poll book data for 34 months after the election. After 34 months, materials may be erased or destroyed under state records law, unless a court, the state recount commission, or federal law requires keeping them longer.
Beginning July 1, 2026, county election boards must send a post‑election report within 14 days after each primary, special, municipal, and general election. The report lists office and election expenses and includes the precinct‑by‑precinct votes for each candidate and public question. At the same time, counties must upload precinct vote totals through the statewide computerized list module. If a recount or contest changes results, counties must upload revised precinct totals within 14 days of court or state recount commission certification. The Indiana election division promptly posts the results online in spreadsheet‑ready files and sends each county report to the designated office within 10 days of receipt.
