Indiana bans ranked choice voting in elections

Beginning July 1, 2026, Indiana elections cannot use ranked choice voting. Officials may not nominate or elect any candidate by ranked choice voting under state election law. The law defines ranked choice voting as ranking candidates and counting in rounds until one gets a majority. This applies to all elections run under Indiana’s Title 3 election law.
