Shorter permit terms and used oil rules

The department can issue many environmental permits for up to five years. Permits for ongoing work can be renewed for up to ten years. The board sets renewal rules, and the commissioner can let staff issue or deny permits. You may apply or treat used oil on the ground only if you have a permit under the listed state laws.

New rules for nuclear power projects

The law ends the old state ban on building or expanding nuclear plants and fuel reprocessing plants. It removes state-required public hearings and state mandates for radiation limits, monitoring, and reporting. Developers must file an environmental feasibility report with the Indiana Department at the same time they file safety documents with the Nuclear Regulatory Commission. Other environmental protections under state law continue to apply.
