Job protection for parents, with meeting rules

From July 1, 2025, through June 30, 2029, Indiana workers get job protection for certain meetings about their children. Employers cannot punish workers for missing work to attend an attendance conference or a case conference committee meeting. This covers private employers with at least one employee, state agencies, and local governments. Biological, adopted, foster, and stepchildren count. Protection covers no more than one conference and one committee meeting per calendar year. You must give at least five days’ advance notice and miss only the time reasonably needed for attendance and travel. Employers do not have to pay for that time. You must give your employer proof of attendance; the school must provide proof to you or your employer upon request. You must also make a reasonable effort to arrange an online meeting where practical, but meeting online is not required.
