Indiana convention representatives face service restrictions

Beginning July 1, 2025, commissioners and alternates must be registered Indiana voters, at least 18, with five continuous years of Indiana residency. They cannot hold federal office or have been registered or required to register as lobbyists within five years under the listed laws. State or federal convictions for crimes of violence, sex offenses, fraud, or false statements bar service. Serving any part of a state or federal felony sentence within the past 10 years also bars service. While serving, they cannot accept gifts or other things of value covered by the law's gratuity ban. Exceptions cover goods or services worth less than $200, mainly ceremonial or commemorative items, political contributions reported as required by law, and legally authorized work pay or bonuses.

More Indiana convention seats, tighter voting limits

Beginning July 1, 2025, Indiana's default team at a U.S. constitutional convention increases from two commissioners and alternates to three each. The convention can set a different number, and Indiana's legislature appoints the number assigned. Commissioners choose a chair to cast Indiana's vote and speak to the media; they can replace the chair anytime. The appointment resolution must bar commissioners from supporting amendments that change specified constitutional protections. These include Articles I–VII, the Bill of Rights, and Amendments 13, 14, 15, 19, 23, 24, and 26.
