Alcohol emergency patients gain legal protection

Beginning July 1, 2025, Indiana extends protection from prosecution for specified alcohol offenses to people receiving emergency help. The person must reasonably be believed to have a health condition directly caused by drinking alcohol. Someone helping them must request emergency medical aid or act together with another person who requests it. The protection covers only the listed alcohol offenses, not all crimes.
