The law gives about 30 acres in Wabaunsee County to Audubon of Kansas at no cost. The Kansas State Historical Society’s director signs a quitclaim deed, and the Attorney General must approve it. Audubon pays all costs to complete the transfer. This transfer is not subject to K.S.A. 75-3043a. The law repeals K.S.A. 75-2731 and takes effect when printed in the Kansas Register.
The deed must state that on July 1, 2026, any part not used for public recreation goes back to the Kansas State Historical Society. If Audubon of Kansas stops existing, the land also reverts. Audubon cannot sell or give away any part unless the State Historical Society reviews and approves the deed first. On and after the law’s effective date, Audubon may transfer the land only with that approval.
