Earlier hospital lessons for Kentucky students

Kentucky students admitted to an inpatient facility can receive home or hospital instruction starting on admission day. Districts must also provide home or hospital instruction when transportation or related problems prevent gathering students at school. Eligibility requires a signed statement of the diagnosed condition requiring this instruction; admission-day access does not waive required documentation. At least two sessions each week, each lasting at least one hour, count as five days of school attendance. These sessions must be taught by a certified teacher provided by the school board. For students with disabilities, the local admissions and release committee decides placement under federal special education law. Instruction follows the student's individualized education program, and the same attendance-counting rules are available. Sessions can be in person, electronic, or another method allowed by regulation. The Kentucky Board of Education must issue regulations setting the components of home or hospital instruction.
