Medicaid funding limits for gender-related medical care

Beginning when the law takes effect upon enactment, Kentucky Medicaid and its contracted managed care plans face new funding limits. They cannot fund cross-sex hormones above amounts normally produced naturally by a healthy person of the same age and sex. They also cannot fund gender reassignment surgery that alters or removes physical features typical of a person’s biological sex. These limits apply despite conflicting state law, but payments required by federal law remain allowed.

Kentucky cancels order and blocks similar actions

Executive Order 2024-632 has no legal effect beginning when the law takes effect upon enactment. From the law’s effective date through January 1, 2028, identical or substantially similar regulations, executive orders, and directives also have no effect. These limits apply despite conflicting laws, regulations, orders, or directives. The supplied text does not explain the order’s contents, so its effects on households are unclear.
