Retirement coverage for more Kentucky education workers

The law includes qualifying WeLeadCS staff in the Kentucky Teachers’ Retirement System. WeLeadCS is the state’s virtual computer science career academy. Coverage also includes former Education Professional Standards Board staff transferred to the Kentucky Department of Education under Executive Order 2020-590. Those transferred staff must have been retirement system members when transferred. Both groups must meet full-time teacher or professional requirements, in jobs requiring certification or a four-year college degree.

Yearly pension debt breakdown for education employers

The Kentucky Teachers’ Retirement System must show each participating employer’s share of pension liability in its yearly financial review. This liability measures pension benefits earned so far. The system’s consulting actuary determines each share using the worker’s or retiree’s last participating employer as of the review date. This reporting rule does not specify any change to total pension liability or household benefits.
