Higher provider payments for Medicaid rides

Louisiana's health department must adopt minimum provider payment rates of $14.50 per trip and $2.10 per mile for nonemergency Medicaid rides, including wheelchair-accessible rides. Shared-ride payment rates must reflect the number of passengers; the law gives no formula. These payments go to ride providers, not households. These requirements take effect when a separate law with specific implementation funding takes effect. Within 90 days after that effective date, the department must take all needed implementation steps, including filing a Medicaid state plan amendment.

New distance limits on Medicaid rides

The law limits nonemergency Medicaid rides to covered services within a recipient's home parish or parishes that border it. A ride farther away requires a medical-necessity decision from the recipient's Medicaid managed care plan or Louisiana's health department. This restriction takes effect when a separate law with specific implementation funding takes effect.
