Municipal workers can keep their retirement plan

Members of Louisiana’s Municipal Employees’ Retirement System (MERS) can keep their plan when moving into certain state jobs. You must have at least five years of service that counts toward MERS vesting. Your new job must be covered by the Louisiana State Employees’ Retirement System (LASERS) and start after December 31, 2024. You can then stay in MERS instead of joining LASERS.
