Bill Overview

Analyzed Economic Effects

2 provisions identified: 1 benefits, 1 costs, 0 mixed.

Linemen gain limited first responder status

Electrical linemen count as first responders only during weather emergencies declared by Louisiana's governor. This covers workers who install, maintain, or repair electrical transmission and power distribution systems. The law includes them in the state's emergency mutual-aid system alongside health, public works, and other skilled support workers. Linemen can also display “first responder” on their uniforms.

Lineman work alone brings no government benefits

Working as an electrical lineman alone does not qualify someone for Louisiana or local government pay, pensions, or other benefits. This limit does not decide eligibility based on another qualifying status or reason. Linemen remain private-sector employees, not state or local government employees. The law does not remove employers' existing legal responsibilities.
