Acadiana sales tax requires voter approval

The law lets the Acadiana Regional Juvenile Justice District board add a sales and use tax of up to 1%. Before adopting the tax, the board must win approval from a majority voting on the question in a district election. The tax covers taxable goods, digital products, services, and leases or rentals within the district. It also covers taxable use, consumption, distribution, and storage, following Louisiana’s sales tax definitions and procedures. Tax money must support only the purposes stated in the voter-approved proposal. The law authorizes the tax but does not itself impose it.
