Louisiana agencies must check applicants' legal status

Listed Louisiana agencies and state colleges must use a standard process to check the legal status of people seeking services. Agencies must make reasonable efforts to serve only people who meet existing eligibility rules; the law does not change those rules. Annual reports must count recipients by legal status and show service costs and categories for undocumented immigrants and unaccompanied immigrant children. Reports must also describe actions taken to follow federal immigration law. Agencies must send reports to the governor, attorney general, and legislature one week before each regular session and post them publicly. Agencies must follow privacy laws, and implementation depends on legislative funding. Agency funding may be withheld until the agency complies, subject to applicable laws and procedures.
