Beginning August 1, 2025, drivers below the posted maximum speed on multilane highways must use the available right lane. They may instead stay as close as practical to the right curb or road edge. Exceptions cover passing a vehicle traveling in the same direction or preparing for a left turn at an intersection, private road, or driveway. Fines are $150 for a first offense, $250 for a second, and $350 for a third; the second and third must occur within 12 months of the first. For the third offense, a court may impose up to 30 days in jail instead of, or alongside, the fine.
