For tax years beginning January 1, 2026, or later, Louisiana account owners can exclude qualifying disability savings deposits from state taxable income. Deposits must go into Louisiana ABLE accounts for a named beneficiary’s qualified disability expenses. Annual limits are $2,400 per beneficiary for single filers and $4,800 per beneficiary for joint filers. Deposits above those limits carry forward for exclusion in later years, in addition to those years’ annual limits. Deposits and interest withdrawn for other purposes count as taxable income. By January 31 each year, the ABLE authority must electronically report the prior year’s deposits to Louisiana’s Department of Revenue. Reports must include each account owner’s name, Social Security number, and total deposits.
