Budget support for firefighter cancer screening

For fiscal year 2025 and later, Maryland's Governor may budget at least $1 million yearly for professional and volunteer firefighter cancer screening. This funding is allowed, not guaranteed. The Health Secretary may use up to 20% of program funds to support research centers, including the University of Maryland Institute for Health Computing. That support must fund collecting, analyzing, and processing screening results to assess and improve how well the screenings work. These provisions take effect July 1, 2025, and expire June 30, 2030.
