Certified recovery homes must allow medication treatment

Beginning October 1, 2026, certified recovery homes cannot refuse services because you receive medication-assisted treatment for opioid use disorder. They also cannot make you stop or change that treatment to get services. This protects access to certified recovery housing for people on medication treatment.

New certification and inspections for recovery homes

Beginning October 1, 2026, the Maryland Department of Health approves a nonprofit to certify recovery homes. The nonprofit sets standards and runs applications and renewals. It must inspect on site before the first certificate and at least once each renewal period. Certificates last 1 year from the issue date. The nonprofit can revoke a certificate if a home breaks the rules.
