More entertainment options for licensed businesses

Beginning July 1, 2025, Anne Arundel County businesses with Class B, BLX, C, D, or H alcohol licenses can seek limited special event permits. These permits allow music, dancing, and other legal entertainment without the former cultural-event or one-day, specified-date limits. The county licensing board retains discretion over approval and may request event details. Existing safeguards cover crowd control, neighborhood peace, public need, public welfare, and county fire, health, and building rules. Class BLX and H premises remain ineligible within 1,000 feet, measured entry to entry, of a school or place of worship. The law removes daily permit fees of $15 for beer-and-wine licenses and $25 for beer-wine-and-liquor licenses. Class C holders were already exempt, and the law sets no replacement fee for this permit.
