Cannabis guards can skip registration background checks

Beginning October 1, 2025, eligible Maryland cannabis security guards can skip state and national background checks for cannabis agent registration. The exemption covers guards serving licensed or registered cannabis businesses, directly or through a security guard agency. They must already be authorized to provide security guard services under Maryland law.

Gaming and healthcare gain guard employer exemptions

Beginning October 1, 2025, Maryland excludes certain gaming and healthcare businesses from its definition of a security guard employer. These are video lottery operators, sports wagering facility licensees, and health care facilities. The exclusion removes requirements tied to that definition, not all security or gaming oversight.
