Child behavioral health pilot in 2027

The Department of Health and Human Services must issue a request for applications by March 1, 2027 to fund one pilot child assertive community treatment (ACT) team. The team will serve either the Lewiston or Bangor area. The contract can run for up to two years and includes workforce incentives. Families in the chosen area gain access to a local team once the pilot starts.

Arts study on AI gets funding

The state provides $25,000 in fiscal year 2026–27 to the Maine Arts Commission. The money pays a consultant to study how artificial intelligence may use artists’ work without permission.

One-time funds for finance education and mentoring

The state provides $5,000 in fiscal year 2026–27 to support the personal finance education working group. It also provides $15,000 in fiscal year 2026–27 to review teacher mentoring programs and prepare the required report. These are one‑time funds at the Department of Education.

Medical cannabis research rules due 2027

The Office of Cannabis Policy must adopt and submit major substantive rules for the medical cannabis research grant program by January 8, 2027. This moves the deadline from January 9, 2026. Program start-up waits for these rules.

AEDs at school sports start 2027–28

Each school district must adopt a policy to ensure access to automated external defibrillators (AEDs) at all school‑sponsored athletic events on school property, including practices. The requirement begins in the 2027–2028 school year, delayed from 2026–2027. Policies must cover access, testing and maintenance per the maker’s guidance, and notice to local emergency services about AED locations and types.

Emergency services info campaign delayed

Maine Emergency Medical Services must run a public information campaign, as resources allow. It must give a development and implementation report to the public safety committee by December 15, 2026. The campaign must be in place no later than July 1, 2027. This moves the deadline back from July 1, 2026.

Law now takes effect after adjournment

The law changes the effective date for Public Law 2025, chapter 523. It now takes effect 90 days after the Second Regular Session of the 132nd Legislature adjourns. This replaces the fixed date of January 1, 2026. The real‑world impact depends on what that 2025 law does.

Tick lottery starts July 2027

The State Lottery creates a $4 instant “tick lottery” game by July 1, 2027 (moved from July 1, 2026). Each ticket costs $4. After prizes and costs, net proceeds are split each year: 20% to the University of Maine Cooperative Extension Tick Laboratory Operations Fund and 80% to the General Fund.
